To limit global warming, it is vital to transition from fossil-based to renewable-based energy systems. Co-funded by the European Union, CRETE VALLEY leads the demonstration of next-generation community energy systems, enabling the island of Crete to meet its energy needs through renewable sources, while engaging citizens, reducing energy bills, and expanding access to clean energy services.
The initiative is structured around four core objectives: Capacity Building, focused on upskilling and engaging citizens for the energy transition; Planning Tools, developing digital toolkits for community planners; Data Sharing, providing secure and open frameworks for sharing energy data; and Digital Twin, creating virtual models for smart optimization of resources. Together these pillars define the Renewable Energy Valley (REV-Lab) approach, which shifts the energy system from a centralised market with few power plants, top-to-bottom distribution, passive consumers, and large power lines, toward a decentralised market with many power producers, bi-directional distribution, active consumers, and small-scale transmission.
Within this ecosystem, Parity Platform (EV Loader) is the software provider and operator of EV chargers at Crete Valley, ensuring interoperability and smart energy management. Through the adoption of open communication standards and advanced Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) protocols, Parity Platform enables seamless integration between EVs, chargers, and the grid, supporting innovation in sustainable mobility and the wider energy transition.
By bridging electric mobility with community energy systems, PARITY contributes directly to CRETE VALLEY’s goal of building a replicable, citizen-centred model for renewable energy communities across Europe.
